Johns Hopkins SAIS and Asia Society Hong Kong Center to host forum, “Digital Challenges to the International System,” in Hong Kong on Thursday, May 31, 2018

The inaugural forum of the Foresight and Regional Strategies Series, “Digital Challenges to the International System,” will be hosted at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.
The annual series, FORESIGHT, was established by the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) to bring together leaders in academia, business, and the non-profit sector to discuss the most pressing issues in international relations.
Johns Hopkins SAIS FORESIGHT 2018 will include panel discussions and a keynote address featuring the school’s faculty experts and leaders in cyber security, foreign policy in the Middle East, international finance and economies, crypto currencies, finance technology, and military and strategic security. The forum will conclude with a networking reception.

Vali Nasr, Dean of Johns Hopkins SAIS, is a Middle East scholar, foreign policy adviser, and commentator on international relations. He is the author of “The Shia Revival: How Conflicts within Islam Will Shape the Future” and “The Dispensable Nation: American Foreign Policy in Retreat,” which explores the implications of the Obama Administration’s foreign policy on American strategic interests. His most recent commentary appeared in The Atlantic and PBS Frontline.
Francis J. Gavin is the Giovanni Agnelli Distinguished Professor and the inaugural director of the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs at Johns Hopkins SAIS. He is the author of “Nuclear Statecraft: History and Strategy in America's Atomic Age” and “Gold, Dollars, and Power: The Politics of International Monetary Relations, 1958-1971.” His most recent commentary appeared in Foreign Policy and War on The Rocks.
Thomas Rid is a Professor of Strategic Studies at Johns Hopkins SAIS and has more than a decade of experience in international security and intelligence studies. He is the author of “Rise of the Machines: A Cybernetic History” and “Cyber War Will Not Take Place.” His most recent commentary appeared in The Wall Street Journal and PBS NewsHour.
John Lipsky is the Peter G. Peterson Distinguished Scholar at the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs and a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute at Johns Hopkins SAIS. Lipsky has previously served as the first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, vice chairman of JPMorgan Investment Bank, chief economist at JPMorgan Chase, and director of research at Chase Manhattan Bank. His most recent commentary has appeared on Bloomberg TV.
