Background and Education

Marsha McGraw Olive is an expert on international development and the political economy of Eurasia.  She is a retired World Bank manager and former Senior Vice President of the Eurasia Foundation.  She led strategy and operations in several countries of the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank, including Russia and Tajikistan, where she served as Country Manager with the rank of Ambassador.  In her earlier career, Marsha worked as a Soviet officer in the State Department and co-edited Nuclear Weapons in Europe: Modernization and Limitation.  Her field work and research has focused on governance, institutional development and land rights in Eurasia and Turkey.  She most recently served as a Visiting Professor of International Political Economy at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. She earned her PhD in International Studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS (2015).
