Background and Education

Jonathan Hoddenbagh is Assistant Professor of International Economics at SAIS and in 2017-2018 is a Visiting Scholar at the International Monetary Fund.  Jon's research and teaching focuses on macroeconomics, international macroeconomics and finance. His current research interests include the conduct and formulation of monetary and fiscal policy, the role of fiscal federalism in monetary unions, and the role of financial frictions in amplifying and propagating business cycle fluctuations.
 
A graduate of Queen's University (BA, MA) and Boston College (MA, PhD), Jon was a Fellow at the Clough Center for Constitutional Democracy and a recipient of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertation Fellowship at Boston College in 2014. Prior to attending graduate school Jon worked as an economist at Canada’s central bank.
