The launch event for “Pakistan Today: The Case for U.S.-Pakistan Relations,” will be hosted by the Foreign Policy Institute (FPI) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
The event marks the release of the latest FPI Study in Policy, a policy report that examines past and future U.S.-Pakistan relations. The launch will also include a keynote address by the former President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf and panel discussions.
The study, co-authored by Foreign Policy Institute Senior Fellow Ambassador Shirin Tahir-Kheli, suggests that Pakistan has a significant place in the worldview of the Trump administration. For decades, Pakistan looked to the United States to aid in developing its economy and increasing its military strength. With globalization, the rise of China, and the near-collapse of the old world order, how will the U.S. prioritize and redefine its relationship with Pakistan? Scholars and practitioners will assess the future of Pakistan’s economy, defense, natural resources, and relations with the U.S. and regional neighbors.
