Johns Hopkins SAIS to host “Diversity in the U.S. Military and the Contributions of the Sikh-American Community” with the Sikh American Veterans Alliance on Friday, April 27, 2018

“Diversity in the U.S. Military and the Contributions of the Sikh-American Community” with the Sikh American Veterans Alliance (SAVA), will be hosted at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
The program will include a viewing of the SikhLens and Chapman University’s documentary short film, “All Quiet on the Home Front,” which shows the struggles of Bhagat Singh Thind as one of the first Sikhs to serve in the U.S. Army. The screening will be followed by a discussion on the core values of both Sikhism and military service, as well as the challenges and opportunities for broader diversity in the U.S. armed forces. The program will conclude with a classical music performance and reception to mark the celebration of Vaisakhi, the South Asian harvest festival and the birthday of the Sikh faith.
The event is presented by the Dean’s Forum and the Strategic Studies Program at Johns Hopkins SAIS.
