HONG KONG — “The Unraveling of the Global Order: Asia Adjusts,” a keynote address and panel discussion featuring Former UN Security Council President Kishore Mahbubani, will be presented for the Johns Hopkins SAIS community, alumni and guests on Friday, March 24, 2017.
Many Asian nations including China and India have excelled as global leaders within the past three decades, in part, as benefactors from a liberal international order led by the United States. However, America’s global leadership is retreating today under new government leadership and discord within the political system and democratic society. With U.S. President Donald Trump leading the “America first” approach, does this mean “Asia last?” How will Asia adjust to this new world? Will China and India step up to fill the vacuum in global leadership?
Mahbubani will give a keynote address during a discussion with experts from Johns Hopkins SAIS and the international community to explore the opportunities, challenges, and the role of Asian leaders in maintaining global growth and security.
