“Is There a Path to Democracy in the Arab World,” with former Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority Dr. Salam Fayyad, will be hosted at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
The event is part of the David H. Bernstein Forum. The forum, which launched in 2017, is held four times a year and features speakers who are celebrated for their international stature and impact on global policy.

About the Speaker
Dr. Salam Fayyad is an economist and former Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority. His tenure at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 1987 to 2001 includes serving as IMF resident representative in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He was also the Arab Bank’s regional manager in Palestine. From 2002 to 2005, he served as Minister of Finance of the Palestinian National Authority. In March 2007, he was appointed again as Minister of Finance in a national unity government, and in June 2007, he was appointed Prime Minister, a position he held until he stepped down in 2013.
In 2010, Dr. Fayyad was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world list. He was also named one of Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers in 2010 and 2011. He founded the non-profit development foundation, “Future for Palestine” in 2013. He has participated in the IMF External Advisory Group on review of Fund policy, and served as Chairman of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Middle East and North Africa. Dr. Fayyad is currently a Visiting Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Distinguished Statesman at the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security.
