Johns Hopkins SAIS expert available to discuss the outcome of the midterm elections in Argentina

EXPERT ADVISORY

Argentine President Mauricio Macri’s coalition Cambiemos won sweeping victories in key districts across the country in midterm elections, a move Dr. Riordan Roett said will reshape the course of politics and boost reform in the country.

Dr. Roett, Director of the Latin American Studies Program at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), said “Mauricio Macri’s impressive victory in the midterm elections will reset national politics in Argentina and break the Peronist deadlock.”

He is available to further discuss:

  • Will the Congress support the president’s reform agenda, even though he lacks majorities in both Houses of Congress?
  • Will investors respond positively to the Cambiemos victory and start investing in Argentina?
  • Since Macri won five of the largest electoral districts in the country, will provincial governors now be more supportive of his programs?
  • Does Macri’s victory signal the end of Peronism?
  • Is Macri a “sure thing” in the next presidential election in 2019?

The noted scholar has offered commentary on Latin America as cited in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, CBS News, Foreign Policy, and Voice of America.
