JHU SAIS and Newsweek to Co-Host Forum on Post-War Iraq Reconstruction

The Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and Newsweek will co-host a forum, "Iraq: Perspectives on Post-War Reconstruction," on Thursday, 07/31 at 6:30 p.m. (a reception will precede the event at 6 p.m.)

This forum will present a compelling dialogue about the post-war reconstruction and humanitarian efforts in Iraq. Lt. Gen. Jay Garner (Ret. U.S. Army) will participate in his first panel discussion since returning to the United States from his duties as former director of the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance for post-war Iraq.

Event participants include:

· Jay Garner, former director of the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance in Iraq

· Robert Hunter, senior advisor at RAND Corporation and former U.S. ambassador to NATO (1993-98)

· Jared Bates, former director of operations and chief of staff of the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance in Iraq, senior vice president and general manager of MPRI, Inc.'s National Group, and retired U.S. Army lieutenant general

· Daniel Klaidman (moderator), Newsweek Washington bureau chief

· Francis Fukuyama (introductory remarks), SAIS Dean of Faculty and Bernard L. Schwartz Professor of International Political Economy

Attendance of this forum is by invitation only. However, the event is open to the media for coverage. The event will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of the school's Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.
