EBRD Chief Economist Willem Buiter to Speak at JHU SAIS

Willem Buiter, chief economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will speak at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) on Tuesday, 12/3 at 5:30 p.m.

His lecture topic will be "From Command to Market Economy: Charting the Progress of Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States."

Buiter's visit to Washington coincides with the release of the EBRD's annual report on the economic and political transition of the region. This year's report features a special section on agriculture and rural development.

The EBRD aims to foster the transition from centrally planned to market economies in Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. It is owned by 60 countries, the European Investment Bank and the European Community.
