Background and Education

John Karaagac joined Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies ( SAIS) as an Adjunct Lecturer in 2006 and has been teaching the core summer courses in International Relations Theory and American Foreign Policy. For the last seven years, he has been the Director of the Kyung Hee-Johns Hopkins short course in American Foreign Policy. He is currently on the faculty at Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs, where he directs the CARI Honors program. Previously, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Richmond.

Karaagac received his PhD, with distinction, at SAIS where he studied under Professor George Liska. He also holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Cambridge. He has written four books on the intersection of foreign policy and the US presidency.

Karaagac currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana, with his wife, Elzbieta Szmyt, who is Professor of Harp at Indiana University.
