Background and Education

Colin Powers is a PhD candidate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he will defend his dissertation in the summer of 2019. His research interests include political Islam, Islamist economics, the political economy of (under)development, the economics of democratization, and the politics of paramilitary actors. Prior to his graduate studies, he worked in psychosocial education in Northern Ireland and Palestine. He is a two-time Fulbright Award grantee, and his academic writing has published across a number of distinguished journals.
