Vienna: ABC Jour fixe on Cina and Europa - partner or competitor? featured by Ambassador Hans Dietmar Schweisgut

The ABC was pleased to invite JHU SAIS alumni to a lecture on China and Europe – partners or competitors? featured by Ambassador Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, one of the most important Austrian experts on this subject. His lecture to engaged a conversation mostly about how the trade conflict between the United States and China affects Europe, what brings the new silk route and what about the protection of intellectual property. Schweisgut is former Head of the EU delegation in China. He has extensive experience in Asia and the EU: from 2011 to 2014 he was the head of the EU delegation in Japan, Austrian Ambassador to Beijing from 2003 to 2007. Austrian Ambassador to Tokyo from 1999 to 2003 and to the EU in Brussels from 2007 to 2010.

Vienna: Alumni Jour Fixe with Thomas Row (B’79, ’80), Professor of History at the Diplomatik Academie

Alumni were invited to an event with SAIS Europe Director Michael Plummer, Thomas Row B’79, ’80, Professor of History at the Diplomatik Academie in Vienna and Sergio Barbanti, Italian Ambassador to Vienna. The event took place at the Palais Metternich, Rennweg 27, 1030 Vienna-Landstraße, Austria.

Friday, June 22, from 4 to 7:30 pm
The Austrian Bologna Chapter was honored to announce that Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations since 2014, was the guest of honor at its General Assembly in the Press Club Concordia, Bankgasse 8, 1010 Vienna. The event was open only to ABC Members. International alumni who wanted to attend are asked to contact chapter head Karl Krammer.

In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of John Hopkins, alumni met for a dinner conversation with Michael G. Plummer, Director, SAIS Europe, Eni Professor of International Economics, on “Changes in the Multilateral Trading System: Challenges for Europe” at Strofilia Restaurant, Rue du Marché aux Porcs 11-13, B-1000.
