Speech Writing for Public Policy Makers

This course instructs students on how to write a well-conceived and crafted speech, which can be a powerful strategic tool to educate, persuade, inspire, console, celebrate, or summon to action. The interactive course will teach the fundamentals of speechwriting with style. Topics covered will include conducting efficient research; crafting persuasive arguments; weaving in color and humor; capturing the speakers voice; and using clear, compelling language and effective rhetorical devices. The workshop will include a review of real-life speech clips and texts as well as writing exercises.
