Hopkins-Nanjing Center Library

The Hopkins-Nanjing Center Library

The Hopkins-Nanjing Center is committed to free and open academic exchange and houses an on-site research library considered one of China’s top collections on international affairs.

The library opened with a collection of 10,000 English-language volumes and a Chinese-language collection of equal size. Initially, the English-language collection focused on US-China relations, political science, international affairs, and economics, but as the the Hopkins-Nanjing Center grew and expanded its programming, so did its well-regarded collection.

USAID support has been invaluable since 1987 in maintaining the collection and funding technology that makes the resources accessible to students and scholars. Today, students at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center have access to more than 120,000 volumes in both Chinese and English, 400 periodicals, and electronic assets of both Johns Hopkins University and Nanjing University. Librarians are available to help students to research topics such as US history and culture, constitutional and international law, energy and sustainability, international development, and more.
