The purpose of ...
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to comparative politics. The models and concepts are broadly applicable across both developed and developing countries, though the focus of the readings is often on advanced industrial societies. The course begins with an introduction to the origins of the state, and a comparison of autocracy and democracy. It then considers themes related to the comparative politics of institutions, comparative political economy, and the current challenges presented by recent changes both within states and between them.
