Background and Education

Major Albert “Jim” Marckwardt has over 24 years of experience in the U.S. Army, codified in his book, The Defense of Jisr Al-Doreaa. These experiences include foreign service, training, logistics, and combat experience. He developed extensive interagency, multinational and joint operational experience during several overseas tours, including two combat tours in Iraq and a training exercise in Egypt. Maj. Marckwardt’s most recent assignments sent him to Honduras and to Mexico to work with the Mexican Army on security cooperation. He is highly regarded for his deep understanding of the application of US security and foreign policy, advanced language capabilities, and cultural knowledge. Throughout his career, Maj. Marckwardt has received multiple commendations for leadership and teamwork.
