International Energy and Environment Practicum

What is the Practicum?
The Practicum is an innovative course at SAIS where teams of SAIS students consult for client organizations on projects aimed at addressing international environmental policy issues.  The Practicum is designed to provide quality research and analysis on an important environmental issue to the client, while providing students with the opportunity to apply concepts learned in classroom to real world problems.

China Studies Visiting Scholar Policy

The China Studies program welcomes up to three visiting scholars each year from overseas and the United States to teach, lecture, and conduct research. Visiting scholars may be hosted by the China Studies Program for varying amounts of time, but generally spend one semester to a full year in Washington, DC. All China Studies visiting scholars must be self-funded. The China Studies Program cannot offer salary, research funding, living stipend, or office space to visiting scholars.

Chinese Language Requirement

Chinese language study is given heavy emphasis at SAIS in recognition of the reality that the ability to converse with Chinese in their own language and to read Chinese-language materials has become a critical ingredient determining how far one may go in the China field, whether in business, government and public policy, journalism, or academics.

China Studies Internships

The China Studies Program assists students find summer internships in China. The program is designed for first-year M.A. students in China Studies, but is open to others.  China Studies will help identify internship opportunities in Greater China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, and also Singapore.

The Starr China Knowledge for the World Fellowships

Fellowships

The US-Korea Institute provides a limited number of fellowships to support Korea Studies concentrators at SAIS. The amount of the award is variable, depending upon merit, experience, and financial need. These awards are renewable for the second year of study at SAIS, provided the student fulfills all fellowship requirements.
