Financial Aid | ISIS

New Users - Required Reading

Begining with the 2005-2006 academic year, the Office of Financial Aid is pleased to offer students several new web services. These new services are part of the institution wide implementation of the Internet Student Information System (ISIS),. ISIS will enable students to

  • Review the status of financial aid applications
  • Accept or decline financial aid awards
  • Review financial aid disbursements

To use ISIS, you will need to have your ISIS ID if you are applying to SAIS for admission.  Your ISIS ID is a unique, eight character, alpha numeric identifier that is assigned to all new and current students. It will appear on letters and correspondance from the Office of Financial Aid.  If you are a current SAIS student, you will need your Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory (JHED) ID to use ISIS.

Please treat your ISIS ID or JHED ID as confidential information, and keep it in a safe place.

ISIS Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ISIS ID?
The Johns Hopkins University and SAIS are committed to safeguarding the privacy of students and their personal information. In an ongoing effort to eliminate Social Security Numbers from correspondance, the Office of Financial Aid will use the ISIS ID to communicate with you. This unique, eight character, alpha numeric identifier is assigned to all new and existing students.

How do I obtain my ISIS ID?
Applicants admitted to SAIS will receive instructions via email from the Office of Admissions. Enrolled students will reveive an email from the Office of Financial Aid with login instructions.

What if I've lost my ISIS ID?
Send an e-mail to fin_aid@sais-jhu.edu, with the subject line "ISIS ID." Provide the following data in the body of the e-mail:

  • Your full name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your permanent address

Once we have confirmed your identity, we will send your ISIS ID to the preferred e-mail address that we have on file.

May I register for classes or pay my bill?
At present, the ISIS self-service function is only used by the Office of Financial Aid. The Registrar, Student Accounts, and Admissions offices are in the process of adopting this standard.

Why can't I access my financial aid awards?
Prospective student financial aid awards are not available online until after the Admissions Committee makes its decisions in early March and the Office of Financial Aid has reviewed student files. Contining student awards are generally available in late April.

How do I find out if the Office of Financial Aid has received my forms?
Once you gain access to ISIS, you will see a menu tab called "My Requirements." By clicking on this tab, ISIS will display your "Requirements" screen. Possible requirements include the FAFSA, tax returns, SAIS applications, etc. Requirements that are not marked as complete or waived must be submitted in order to complete your application.

How do I view, accept, or decline my financial aid?
When financial aid awards are made available online (see FAQ #5), students will have access to the following three menu tabs:

  • Aid Summary - displays your financial aid status (see FAQ #8 for a definition of Status), an estimate of your cost of attendance, and the sum of your awards
  • Aid Information - displays your financial aid awards. Students should ACCEPT or DECLINE each award. If your financial aid package includes a student loan and you wish to borrow less than what you were offered, please contact us.
  • Disbursement Information - displays all disbursement records associated with your financial aid awards. The scheduled date is the date on which the funds will be credited to your student account. If there is a value in the credited date field, the funds have been disbursed to your student account

NOTE: Federal Work Study earnings are NEVER credited to your student account, as values listed represent potential earnings for a given semester. Students with Federal Worrk Study awards receive regular payroll checks.

Would you define financial aid status?
The Office of Financial Aid assigns every student a status.  The value is used to track the progression of your file from application to disbursement. Definitions appear below:

  • APPLICANT - A record exists for your in the financial aid system; however you did not express an interest in applying for financial aid
  • AID APPLICANT - The Office of Financial Aid is aware of your intent to apply for financial aid, and you may have submitted one or more documents to our office.
  • APP COMPLETE - This status means that you have submitted the basic financial aid application materials. The Office of Financial Aid has also requested additional materials. You should check the status of your forms to determine what additional information has been requested.
  • VERIFICATION - This status is assigned when the US Department of Education has selected your application for verification through a random selection process.  The Office of Financial Aid is required to match the information reported on your federal tax return with the data you supplied on the FAFSA. You should review the "My Information" tab to see if our office has requested additional documentation.
  • FILE COMPLETE -  This status is assigned when all required application materials have been received.  You may still be required to sign promissory notes for loan(s) that were awarded. Check the the information under the "My Information" tab to determine if there are any outstanding promissory notes to complete.
