Office of Student Life | Visiting a Doctor

Preferred Clinic

All SAIS students may visit the Georgetown University Student Health Center.  This is designated as the preferred clinic for SAIS students covered under the Aetna Student Health plan.  The deductible payment is limited to $75 per condition for students who begin treatment there.  Students may choose any other clinic or doctor they wish, but will be subject to the full cost of the deductible ($250).

For counseling services, the deductible is reduced to $75 per condition when the Johns Hopkins Student Assistance Program refers you for treatment. See the Counseling Resources page for more information.

The Georgetown University Student Health Center is located at:
Ground Floor, Darnall Hall
3800 Reservoir Road NW
Washington, DC 20007

Appointments and Questions:
202.687.2200
Request an appointment at the Main Campus and bring your SAIS J-Card and insurance card. Note: this is not a walk-in clinic.

Please note: Georgetown does not provide birth control prescriptions for family planning purposes.  Women who need to get a birth control prescription should visit other medical providers or community resources.  The benefit for the annual routine gynecological exam through Aetna Student Health includes the office visit, pap smear screening and chlamydia test.  Benefits differ from the plan for Georgetown University students.  For example, tests for gonorrhea are not covered under the Aetna Student Health plan and students should warn Georgetown doctors that this is the case.  To avoid paying for uncovered exams, make sure your doctor knows your health insurance plan is not the Georgetown plan.

Getting There:
Take the Georgetown Shuttle from 19th Street and Sunderland Place NW, 1/2 block south of the northern exit of the Dupont Metro stop.

Take the D6 Sibley Hospital bus from 20th Street NW and O Street NW.  Arrive at Reservoir Road NW and 38th Street NW.

Take the G2 Georgetown University bus from P Street NW and 18th Street NW.  Arrive at P Street NW and 35th Street NW and walk 1/2 mile.

See www.wmata.com for additional transportation options.

Other Medical Providers

To find preferred providers who participate in the Aetna Student Health plan, visit http://www.aetnastudenthealth.com/jhusi and click on "Find a Doctor, Hospital or Pharmacy." When using the Aetna Student Health DocFind, choose the "Student Health Plans" option under Plan, NOT "Student Assistance Program (SAP)." If you do not have access to a computer, call Aetna Student Health at 800.558.8845.

For the best coverage possible, students who are not making their appointment through the Georgetown Student Health Center should choose a practitioner listed uner the Aetna Student Health DocFind. When you call the doctor's office to make sure they are accepting new patients, verify that they still accept the Aetna Student Health plan insurance.
