SAIS 2010 Graduation

Date & Time:
Thursday, May 27, 3:00 p.m.

Location:
Constitution Hall
18th & D Streets, N.W.
Washington, D.C.

Parking is limited at DAR Constitution Hall and graduates and guests are encouraged to use the Metro or cabs for transportation. 

Schedule:
2:00 p.m. - Doors open to guests and students line up.  Doors close 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony.
3:00 p.m. - Commencement Ceremony begins
5:30 p.m. or Immediately following the ceremony - Reception at SAIS, 1740 Massachusetts Avenue, NW.
      
Instructions for Graduates:
SAIS graduates participating in commencement will be able to access instructions for graduation here this spring.  

Important Deadlines for Graduates

Sunday, November 1, 2009
Deadline for December 2009 graduates to submit the Application to Graduate via https://isis.jhu.edu.  
This form is required of all graduating students to participate in the ceremony or receive a diploma. Login to ISIS and go to the Registration menu. Select Program of Study Info and click on Apply to Graduate. 

Friday, January 15 (tentative) through Thursday, April 1, 2010
Students who are participating in the graduation ceremony must purchase a cap and gown from the Herff Jones Company.  Members of the Armed Services may choose to wear their formal uniform.  Students may place their order for a cap and gown online until April 1.  Orders placed after this date will be charged an additional $30 late fee.  To place your order, visit http://www1.herffjones.com/college/graduation/index.cfm (look for Johns Hopkins University - SAIS).  Students may also purchase graduation announcements, thank you notes and other memorabilia through this site.

Deadline for May 2010 graduates to submit the Application to Graduate via

Herff Jones representatives will be on campus to help students order their caps and gowns, if they have not done so already online.

Wednesday, April 7, 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 8, 1:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Ticket and invitation pick up. Students should pick up the graduation tickets they requested and up to four invitations.

Friday, May 7
Deadline to inform the Office of Student Life of change in plans to participate in graduation
Students indicated on their application to graduate if they would or would not participate in the graduation ceremony.  If your plans have changed, you must inform the Office of Student Life at lisa.kahn@jhu.edu.

Monday, May 17 and Tuesday, May 18
11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Kenney Auditorium/Herter Room

Cap and Gown distribution
All students who are walking must pick up their caps and gowns at this time.  If you did not order your regalia by the deadline, you can rent your cap and gown during distribution (please note that you will be charged a $30 late fee and must pay with cash or check). Students will also have the opportunity to pick up any extra tickets and invitations during distribution.

JHU Commencement (Baltimore):
Thursday, May 27, 2010
9:15 a.m.

All SAIS students are invited to attend the university-wide commencement ceremony in Baltimore and must provide their own transportation to the Homewood campus.  Please indicate that you plan to attend this ceremony when you submit your Application to Graduate.  The JHU graduation ceremony will begin at 9:15 a.m.  Students must arrive by 7:30 a.m.  The procession begins at 8:55 a.m.  For information about The Johns Hopkins University-wide commencement ceremony, visit www.jhu.edu/commencement and view the instructions for graduates (forthcoming).

Faculty Graduation Information
All SAIS faculty are invited and encouraged to attend the 2010 Commencement.  Faculty are asked to complete the online RSVP form no later than Friday, March 26.
