NSEP David L. Boren Fellowship

The National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren fellowships provide a unique funding opportunity for U.S. citizens to study world regions critical to U.S. interests, such as Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Middle East.  The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are excluded.

The Boren Fellowships allow graduate students to add an international component to their graduate studies. Language study must be an integral part of each Boren proposal.  Successful programs have also incorporated research and/or academic internships.  After graduation from SAIS, Fellows must make a commitment to working in the federal government for a minimum of one year.

Additional information on preferred geographic regions, languages and field of study, and application procedures can be found at www.borenawards.org.  Students are responsible for submitting their material directly to Institute of International Education.  Please note that SAIS students who would like for their proposals to be reviewed by a staff member must submit their applications to Lisa Kahn by Friday, January 13.  Students are also strongly encouraged to discuss your proposal with SAIS faculty members for their expertise. The deadline to submit your final application to IIE is Tuesday, January 31, 2012.

For more information please contact Lisa Kahn at 202.663.5705 or lisa.kahn@jhu.edu or NSEP directly at 1.800.618.NSEP or boren@iie.org
