Do you have a burning question about SAIS that you would like SGA to track down for you? Please fill out the following form so we can work on it and post the answer here.
How do I get to Georgetown University if I am sick and want to use the clinic? There are several city buses that go to Georgetown. The G2 goes to Georgetown's Eastern entrance. The D3 and D6 go to Georgetown's Northern entrance. Both can be caught on the West side of Dupont Circle on the North side of P Street between 20th and 21st Street. However, the best way to get there is to ride the GUTS Bus, provided free by Georgetown University. It picks people up on the Northwest corner of Massachusetts Ave and 20th Str and drops people off right next to the health clinic. It runs very regularly, the schedule can be found here: http://otm.georgetown.edu/guts Does the SGA recommend any healthcare providers in the area? Yes, previous students have recommended the providers in this list: click here. Be sure to call ahead to make an appointment and make sure they still accept Aetna. Unfortunately, this list only means that previous students had good experiences; we cannot guarantee these providers' future performance. Why is there no way to add money onto my JCard in Rome for printing and photocopies? • The money-adding machines are incredibly expensive and require someone to maintain them. Fortunately the librarians in Nitze are properly trained, but no one in Rome can do that job. Furthermore, the technology is changing so quickly that a better machine will be available soon.
Why am I having trouble getting on the hopkins wireless network with my Mac laptop? • Getting on the hopkins wireless network is a little more complicated for Macs. To get into the network (IF YOU HAVE MAC VERSION 10.4.X, for 10.5.x, click link below to find directions) open internet connect (through the applications list) go to File and open new 802.1X connection. Under the configurations pull down box, click edit configurations. Only check the box marked PEAP (none of the others should be checked) then click "ok" and Enter JHED ID and password and when you click "ok" again, a box will appear, click on show certificate and expand trust settings and mark as “always trust.” If that doesn’t work, make sure you have all the new updates for your operating system and you might need to turn firewalls off during the process (afterwards turn them back on). For more information click here for a link to the page where you can find the directions on how to connect, be sure to check whether your operating system is Tiger or Leopard and download the correct instructions. For some reason, people running the G4 and older Macs can run into more problems. Beginning next semester and continuing every semester thereafter the IT department will set up in the lobby of Nitze during the first few days of classes and help students connect to the hopkins wireless network if they have yet to do so, dates and times will be announced soon. How can I contact someone from the administration or the student government about my concerns and questions? • You can always contact professors and administrators through email, telephone and by dropping by their offices, a full list of the faculty directory can be found by clicking here. • Likewise, you can always contact the student government with concerns and questions by emailing us at saissga@jhu.edu or by filling out an anonymous question on the form at the top of this page. Often the student government should be the first point of contact with questions/concerns because they have likely fielded similar questions and their main task is to ensure a positive student experience through communication between and among students and staff.
Is there a writing center at SAIS where I can get help with editing papers and take-home exams? • Yes there is! There is a writing center where you can have your papers and take-home exams edited by SAIS's english TA's. To find the schedules and how to sign up for an appointment click here. Please note that at the top of the page it says "for non-native speakers." Please disregard that, this is a service for all students. Where can I find the SAIS gift shop and its hours of operation? • The gift shop is in the basement of Nitze and it is run by IT. If nobody is in the gift shop and you would like to purchase something, please send an email to SAIShelp@jhu.edu What should I do if I am having a problem getting a refund or a payment? First, be sure to speak with Frances Scarver in Human Resources or Catherine Porter in the Business Office. Refunds and payments are both processed through the main Johns Hopkins campus in Baltimore, and Frances or Catherine are your best bet for unraveling what is going on there. Lastly, remember that it takes at least 3 weeks for you to be added to payroll if you are working for SAIS, so do not expect to get paid for about a month. Why does SAIS add $100 to my card every semester for use in the cafeteria? By mandating this $100, DC law allows students to circumvent paying taxes on food, which saves us 10%. |
