reetings from the SAIS Information & Technology Services (ITS) department. We are located on the third floor of the Nitze Building in rooms 317 and 318, adjacent to the Computer Center. You can also reach us by calling the Help Desk on 202-663-5666, or via email to mgolding@jhu.edu or melahi@jhu.edu AIS ITS offers numerous services to its students, including Wireless Internet Access, access to several computer labs, file storage services, and email services. For a description of each of these services, click on the links above or on the left hand side. What's New for Fall 2008 We now have a new high definition video conferencing room, located in 1717 Mass. Ave. (BOB Building) in room 736. Features in this room include a document camera, high definition video camera and wireless microphones. We have added additional video conferencing units in other rooms as well. If you have a need to connect with a remote site via video conferencing, please email mgolding@jhu.edu. In the next few weeks the JHU portal (http://my.johnshopkins.edu) will undergo some changes to make it easier to use and personalize. Please check back to the site periodically to see these updates for yourself. We now have two new wireless networks, "jhguestnet" and "hopkins." The jhguestnet wireless network will provide instant access to anyone, however there is no access to Hopkins resources such as the library. The hopkins network provides access to all Hopkins applications. These replaces the old "standard" network we've used in the past, so you will have to reconfigure your laptop. More instructions are available here. There are also printed instructions in the Nitze Computer Center, and our student computer monitors will gladly provide technical assistance getting you connected. Special printing needs? The Nitze Computer Center now offers color and two-sided printing.
Need a place to store and share your files? Try JShare. All students are provided with a JShare account, and can access this account by logging in to JHED and clicking on JShare. To protect your laptop files, JHU has teamed up with the U-Vault company. U-Vault automatically backs up your files over the Internet to their network. For an information sheet on this product, click here. To purchase U-Vault, click here to be redirected to the U-Vault web site. Wireless printing is now available in the Nitze basement. Like our other printers, you need your Blue JCard to print. Login Problems - If you're having trouble logging in to your email, try resetting your password. This can be done by going to http://jhed.jhu.edu and putting your LID in the "Reset Password" box halfway down the right-hand side of the page. Mailbox Display Problems - We've received several complaints from students unable to see their mailbox, particularly when logging in from work. This is most likely due to computer security settings at your workplace. As a work-around, try accessing your mail using the JHU portal at http://portal.johnshopkins.edu. Click in the "Start Here" box, login using your JHED ID and password, and click on Email. We've put together a FAQ sheet with common problems and their solutions, including how to "clean" your PC of spyware. To read this document, click here. Have a concern or recommendation? We are always looking for ways to improve our service. If you have any complaints or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
