Welcome to the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) website. Our office is located in Nitze Building, Room 404. ISSS is charged with monitoring legislation, regulations, and policies at the federal, state and local levels that affect international educational exchange, and for interpreting and applying those directives in the SAIS environment in support of the university’s teaching and research.
In consultation with faculty and administration, the ISSS determine the visa and employment options for international students, scholars, and visitors that will permit the greatest benefit and flexibility to SAIS and to the individual. We provide information and assistance to other offices at SAIS and Johns Hopkins University to advance the university international objectives. We work closely with other international students and scholars offices at the Johns Hopkins University to insure integrity and consistency of services provided across the JHU campus.
International students and scholars are an important part of educational life at SAIS, lending different perspectives and voices to the intellectual and academic discussions and pursuits that take place on campus. While you are here, we hope that you make the most of the opportunities that will present themselves – academically, culturally, personally – to expand not only your horizons, but also those of others.
One of the main responsibilities of the office is advocacy on behalf of international visitors at SAIS so that they can achieve their educational objectives while maintaining their legal status. ISSS becomes the main resource for information for international students and scholars regarding maintenance of their legal status in the United States and their employment options, once they arrive on SAIS campus. We invite you to utilize the office and this website as a resource for information and appropriate referral and wish you a productive and enjoyable stay at SAIS.
