  • Ryan Brier, President

Ryan is a first year, Finance and Development concentrator. Originally from Denver, he received his B.A. in International Development from The George Washington University and studied abroad at La Universidad de Granada in Spain. Upon the completion of his undergraduate studies Ryan worked for Morgan Stanley, managing private investment portfolios for foundations and endowments in Washington, DC. Following that, he moved to Nicaragua and spent a year managing a project for a grassroots microfinance institution. After SAIS Ryan hopes to work towards building partnerships between social entrepreneurs and multinational corporations in the developing world as a means of facilitating economic and political development. In his spare time he enjoys live music, traveling, and cooking.

 
 

 

  • Samiya Edwards, Director of Outreach and Community Consulting

Sam is a first year student studying Africa Studies with a focus on private sector development in emerging markets. She received a B.A. in Journalism and Japanese from the University of Maryland, College Park. Sam is proficient in Japanese and worked for the Development Bank of Japan before transitioning to consulting work on transparency and governance issues and investment in Africa. After SAIS, Sam plans to work in the field of social entrepreneurship and innovation in Africa. In her free time, she enjoys any kind of gastronomic adventure, whether exploring local delights in Washington, DC, or exotic delicacies while traveling abroad.

 

 

 

  • Nick Borst, Director of Community Consulting

Nick is concentrating in China Studies and has spent two years studying and working in China. Nick graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Political Science and International Studies. Last year Nick attended the Johns Hopkins Nanjing Center and received a certificate in Chinese and American Studies. Recently, Nick was part of the first group of SAIS students to travel to Nicaragua as part of the Consulting Club's Community Consulting Initiative. In his free time Nick enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and visiting all the attractions in DC.

 

 

  • Allison Lindenberg, Director of Career Treks

Allison is a second year, Middle East Studies concentrator. She received a B.A. in International Studies from Emory University and studied in Israel at Tel Aviv University where she learned Hebrew and Arabic. She has held internships at the State Department Office of Terrorism Finance & Economic Sanctions Policy and the Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security's Office of Enforcement Analysis. Allison is currently working for consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton as a Co-Op on the Modeling Simulation Wargaming & Analysis team. For fun, she enjoys spending time at the New Jersey shore with friends and family, training for a triathalon, and playing piano.

 

 

 

 

  • Tara Nicholson, Director of Club Development 

Tara is a first year Latin American Studies concentrator pursuing a dual-degree with the Wharton School of Business. Originally from Seattle, Washington, she received her B.A. in International Relations from Colgate University, and studied abroad in Switzerland and Spain. Prior to SAIS, she spent most of her early career as a management consultant at Deloitte, traveling every week to such diverse places as Arkansas, DC, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Russia, Netherlands, and the UK. In her free time, Tara packs her schedule with more travel, taking advantage of the free miles and hotel points she racked up while consulting. After SAIS/Wharton, Tara plans to return to consulting to advise clients on business expansion/development within Latin America.

  • Silas Cardwell, Director of Club Panels

Silas is a second year China Studies concentrator. Born and raised in Detroit, Silas has a B.A. in Economics from Howard University. Before enrolling at SAIS, he worked for the Small Business Administration’s National Guaranty Purchase Center, and lived as a nomad in China for the greater part of four years– two in Qinghai, one in Beijing and another at the Hopkins Nanjing Center. After SAIS, Silas plans to continue working in Small and Medium Enterprise development in China and Latin America. In his spare time Silas reads Saul Bellow novels, screams at the TV while watching mediocre Detroit sports teams and prank calls his grandmother.
