The SAIS Ph.D. program is designed to develop each student's proficiency in three related fields of international studies, including one field of specialization. Each Ph.D. student is required to: (1) complete coursework relevant to his or her chosen fields of study, (2) complete coursework in research methodology, (3) pass written comprehensive examinations, (4) demonstrate competence in International Economics, (5) demonstrate language competence, (6) present and defend a dissertation prospectus, (7) write a dissertation and (8) successfully defend the dissertation at an oral examination. |
