I am graduating soon. Can I continue my student health coverage?
Aetna Student Health does not offer a continuation plan for graduating students after the end of the policy year on August 14. COBRA coverage only applies to medical coverage offered as an employee benefit, so students are not eligible to apply for COBRA coverage.
Johns Hopkins does not endorse a particular temporary health insurance plan for students who wish to bridge the gap between their old health insurance and the university plan or between the university plan and coverage offered by an employer. An example of a short-term plan is Assurant health insurance. Individual plans are also available through Aetna. In addition, international students may want to consider Compass Benefits Group.
I have a pre-existing condition. How can I be sure my expenses are covered after graduation?
Students who have pre-existing conditions should pay special attention to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). To identify plans that will cover individuals with pre-existing conditions and to understand the rules that apply to exclusions of these conditions, students should contact the state health insurance commission for the state in which they plan to live.
Incoming students should refer to the Aetna Student Health plan brochure for details about pre-existing conditions.
Am I covered internationally?
Aetna Student Health provides coverage when you travel anywhere in the world. Care must be arranged through On Call International. Students can later submit a claim to be reimbursed at the out-of-network rate. See the Medical Plan, Travel Assistance menu item on the Aetna Student Health Web site for more information. On Call International is also available as a standalone service through Aetna Student Health for those with alternate insurance coverage.
Full-time JHU students are covered by the International SOS program for travel assistance services when traveling on university-sponsored activities, but not if they are traveling for personal purposes. This is not a medical insurance plan.
Can SAIS recommend a doctor?
The Georgetown Student Health Center is the preferred provider for SAIS students.
The Student Government Association may provide suggestions they have received from students of doctors in the area. These doctors have not been researched or approved by the school.
I am trying to enroll in a dental plan or setup online access to the Aetna Student Health system. What is the JHU ID I need to provide?
Aetna Student Health now uses your 6-digit alphanumeric ISIS ID for identification purposes.
