Applying to the SAIS Ph.D. Program

Degree Programs | Applying to the SAIS Ph.D. Program

Applications are received and processed by the Office of Admissions. The individual field directors for each program review qualified applicants and nominate selected candidates to the Faculty Ph.D. Committee. The Faculty Ph.D. Committee reviews the nominated candidates and makes the final admissions decision.

To qualify, an applicant must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Resident SAIS students who have completed 12 courses in the M.A. program
  • Holders of the SAIS M.A. degree
  • Qualified Masters in International Public Policy (M.I.P.P.) students
  • Students with an M.A. from other universities in a relevant field of study.
