Making Normal Progress Towards Your Educational Objective

International Student and Scholar Services | Making Normal Progress Towards Your Educational Objective

Although you have been admitted for the duration of status or ìD/Sî, you do not have the ability to remain in the United States indefinitely as a student.  At some point, you must be able to demonstrate normal progress toward a degree.  This is particularly important for those pursuing doctorate study that entails considerable research and writing for a dissertation.  ìNormal progressî is fairly easy to determine in the context of coursework required for a degree, but becomes more difficult to determine in the context of a dissertation research.  For this reason, it is important to develop a good relationship with your academic advisor as his or her confirmation of your progress may be required at some point.
