International Student and Scholar Services | Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant (F-1) Student Status
An I-20 form is a legal document issued by a US school as evidence that you have been accepted to a full course of study at the institution. It is valid only for the period of time specified on the form and only for the academic program at the school described. This form is used to apply for F visa stamps for students and dependents at a U.S. consulate abroad. The dependent for F-1student will be on F-2 visa. It is also used to enter and re-enter the United States in F status. The I-20 must be updated whenever any significant changes occur to the information contained on the form (change in funding, extension of academic program, change in major field of study, school transfers, employment authorizations...). It also needs to be endorsed for travel when you are temporarily traveling outside of the United States.
