Printing to the Library's Laptop Room Printers
To print to the Laptop Room's printers, the HP LaserJet 5200 printer and the Pharos software must be installed on your laptop. You must be connected to the "hopkins" wireless network (instructions here). Note that laptop printing will not work with the "JHGuestnet" wireless network.
For Windows, please perform the following steps:
To install the double-sided printer, Printer F
To install the single-sided printer, Printer E
For Macintosh OS X, please perform the following steps:
Installation for Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger)
1. Open the Printer Setup Utility in </Applications/Utilities/>.
2. Click the <Add> button in the toolbar, then hold down the <Option> key on the keyboard and click the <More Printers...> button.
3. From the topmost popup button, select <Advanced>.
4. From the device popup button, select <Pharos Print Server>.
5. In the device name field, enter a name for the new printer queue.
6. In the device URI field, enter the Unified Resource Identifier for the desired Popup queue on the Pharos Print Server (steps a and/or b):
a. To install the double-sided HP LaserJet 5200 printer (printer F), this entry should be "popup://128.220.183.25/SAIS-Lib-2DS", without the quotes. Please note that you must select the box for "Duplex Unit" (double-sided printing; see step # 8).
b. To Install the single-sided HP LaserJet 5200 printer (printer E), this entry should be "popup://128.220.183.25/SAIS-Lib-2", without the quotes.
7. From the printer model popup button, select the type of printer associated with the Popup queue. The printer is the HP LaserJet 5200.
8. Click <Add>. The new Popup queue will now show up in the list of printers. If you have installed the double-sided printer ("popup://128.220.183.25/SAIS-Lib-2DS"), for "Installable Options," you must select the box for "Duplex Unit" (double-sided printing).
9. To print to the new queue, select it from the printer popup button in the print dialog box of any application. If you are printing to the double-sided printer, please make sure that duplex/double-sided printing is selected in the print dialog box of the application you are printing from.
Installation for Mac OS 10.5 and Mac OS 10.6 (Leopard and Snow Leopard)
1. Open System Preferences and click on the <Print & Fax> icon.
2. Click the <+> button.
3. Hold down the <Control> key on the keyboard and click anywhere on the toolbar. From the popup menu that appears, select <Customize Toolbar>.
4. Drag the <Advanced> icon to the toolbar and close the customization dialog.
5. Click on the <Advanced> button in the toolbar.
6. From the <Type> popup button, select <Pharos Print Server>.
7. In the <URL> field, enter the Unified Resource Identifier for the desired Popup queue on the Pharos Print Server (steps a and/or b):
a. To install the double-sided HP LaserJet 5200 printer (printer F), this entry should be "popup://128.220.183.25/SAIS-Lib-2DS", without the quotes. Please note that you must select the box for "Optional Duplex Unit" or "Duplex Unit" (double-sided printing; see step # 10).
b. To Install the single-sided HP LaserJet 5200 printer (printer E), this entry should be "popup://128.220.183.25/SAIS-Lib-2", without the quotes.
8. In the <Name> field, enter a name for the new printer queue.
9. From the <Print Using> popup button, select the type of printer associated with the Popup queue. The printer is the HP LaserJet 5200.
10. Click <Add>. If you have installed the double-sided printer ("popup://128.220.183.25/SAIS-Lib-2DS"), make sure that "Optional Duplex Unit" or "Duplex Unit" is checked in the window that shows you the printer's options.
11. To print to the new queue, select it from the printer popup button in the print dialog box of any application. If you are printing to the double-sided printer, please make sure that duplex/double-sided printing is selected in the print dialog box of the application you are printing from.
