Registration
1. I have never taken French before.
You should register for a novice class (SA. 904.710.01). Please register online on ISIS starting July 16. You will find the information regarding the class schedule on ISIS.
2. I have taken a French class at SAIS (either in the DC campus or in the Bologna campus).
a. You received a B- or up in your last French class: you have been assigned to a specific section (please see email sent by the French Program mid-May). Please register on ISIS to the assigned section starting on July 16. You do not need further academic advice.
If you have not received your section information, please contact ASAP Daria Mizza (dmizza@jhu.edu) or Sophie Russelburg (srusselb@jhu.edu).
b. You received less than B- in your last French class: make sure to contact the French Program ASAP.
3. I have taken French before coming to SAIS.
You should take the placement exam. This exam consists of two parts 1)an online portion and 2)an oral interview. Students are required to take the online written part prior to meeting for their oral interview. Please follow the steps below:
1) Click here to take the online placement test before September 4th, 2012. The password is sais.
2) On September 4th, 2012, meet with Professor Russelburg (R-320) from 09:30 AM to 03:00 PM for an oral placement interview. No registration or email notification is needed for this part.
Post- Proficiency Students
If you have passed the Proficiency exam in DC or in Bologna Campus and if you plan to attend the weekly 2-hour Post-Proficiency Course, you should register in Advanced Low, Section 1 (910.730.01) on ISIS on July 16th, 2012.

FAQs
Can I take the online placement test more than once?
No. You can only take the online test once. If you take it more than once, we will only consider the lowest grade.
What happens if I register without taking the placement exams?
You will be asked to leave the class.
I am a returning student and did intensive French instruction during the break. Can I take the placement tests to see if I can skip a level?
Yes, you can. We recommend it.
