Blackboard (Bb) 9

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS | Academic Technology @ SAIS

Blackboard (Bb) 9 is the latest version of the industry standard and most widely used online course management system available.   The system offers a wide range of web-based tools that can help you manage your course activities, facilitate communication, and offer dynamic instructional content online.  It boasts an easy-to-use interface that can be customized to suit the particular needs of your courses.  It also reflects the ongoing trend in higher education toward engaging learners through the thoughtful application of technology tools.

As of the Fall 2010 term, Blackboard is the primary method of accessing the library's electronic reserves (ERes) system.   Every course has a companion website in Bb, accessible with a JHED ID and password.  Each course site includes a link to ERes and a copy of the course syllabus.  We do not require that instructors use the Bb system beyond those basic features, but we encourage users to take advantage of the service in other, more creative ways.  It may be used to share presentations and lecture notes, host online class discussions, post course announcements, and much more.
