Accessing Blackboard as a Course Auditor
Course readings and other materials are now only available in the Bb system, and some students have been confused about whether or not they may access materials for courses in which they are not enrolled. In order to minimize that confusion we are enforcing the following policy and procedures:
In order for a student to be granted access to a Blackboard course site, they must be enrolled in the course in ISIS as a regular student or as an official auditor.
2011-2012 Audit Procedures:
1. The student must get an official audit form from the Registrar's office or SAIS website and have it signed by the course instructor. That form requires the student and the instructor to agree on a minimum level of participation in the course (e.g., attend class and do 40% of the readings).
2. After the student returns the form to the Registrar's office, the Registrar will add them to the course as an official auditor. (Students will not be added as auditors to courses that have reached their enrollment caps)
3. Upon being registered, the student will automatically be granted access to the course's Blackboard site.
4. The deadline to register for an audit or to change a for-credit course to an audit is available from the Registar's office.
5. If a student audits a course and satisfactorily completes all of the work for it, they may change the status of the course to receive full credit. The deadline for this option is available from the Registrar's office.
Exception for Core Exams
The only exception to this policy applies to students preparing to take one or more of the four Core Exams: American Foreign Policy since WWII, Comparative National Systems, Evolution of the International System, and Theories of International Relations. Regular core exam courses are often attended by unofficial auditors who are preparing for the exams independently. We will allow those students to access the electronic reserve readings for core courses via special sites that have been set up in the Community section of Bb, one for each core subject area. Students may self-enroll in those sites, and instructions for that process can be found here.
