Software
SAIS supports a growing number of software applications that can enhance teaching and learning.

Powerpoint / Impatica
Microsoft Powerpoint allows you to record voiceover narration directly into a presentation, and the Impatica software compresses the presentation into a format that can easily be delivered through the Web.  This is a great way to create lecture notes and to archive classroom presentations.

Adobe Connect  :  http://connect.johnshopkins.edu/welcome/
Adobe Connect Pro is a web collaboration tool that provides you with a virtual meeting/classroom environment for sharing presentations, images, and desktop applications with remote participants.

Turnitin  :  http://www.turnitin.com/static/index.html
This web service allows any user to submit a written work and receive an "originality" report detailing potential instances of plagiarism, either intentional or not.  It can be used by faculty to gauge the integrity of essays.

Camtasia Studio
Camtasia allows you to capture video of all of the mouse clicks and movements you make while showing a computer-based presentation, complete with narration.  It can be used to record lectures, which can then be uploaded to Blackboard or another online service.  Best of all it is easy to use, and it offers a wide range of production formats, from iPod-ready files to high definition DVD.

SnagIt
This is a robust yet easy-to-use screen capture program that can help you build lectures and presentations by "grabbing" still images of any portion of what you see on your computer screen.

Electronic Testing
Click here to review SAIS' policy for allowing students to take tests and exams using their own laptops.

Hardware
SAIS supports hardware solutions that enhance the classroom experience for faculty and students.

SmartBoard
This interactive technology allows you to use a regular classroom projector to draw on a virtual whiteboard with virtual ink, manipulate your computer with the touch of a finger, and record the content you create for distribution via a CMS site, email, or other means.  It is a powerful educational tool, and it's fun.  SmartBoard technology is currently available in Nitze 417 and Rome 203.

"Clickers"
A clicker is a handheld device that promotes active learning in the classroom.  Students can use clickers to provide instant, anonymous feedback to an instructor, as in a poll.  The devices can also be used to facilitate student assessments in realtime.
