JHU SAIS and Korea Institute of Finance to Host Conference on State of World Economy


The Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Korea Institute of Finance will hold a one-day conference, “State of the World Economy 2011-12: Whither or Wither?” on Thursday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Duk-soo Han, South Korean ambassador to the United States, will give the conference’s luncheon keynote address at noon. Experts from international organizations, government, think tanks and academia will speak throughout the day in the following sessions:

  • 9 a.m. Welcoming remarks by event hosts and opening address by Duck-Koo Chung, former South Korean minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy and current chair of North East Asia Research Foundation
  • 10 a.m. Panel 1: “Whither the Global Economy 2011-12?”
  • 12 p.m. Luncheon keynote address by Duck-soo Han
  • 1:30 p.m. Panel 2: “Demand, Deflation and Debt in the ‘Locomotive’ Economies 2011-12”
  • 3:45 p.m. Panel 3: “Implications and Future of Korean Economy 2011-12”
  • 5:30 p.m. Closing Remarks

The conference, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Kenney Auditorium of the school’s Nitze Building, located at 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Members of the public should click here to RSVP.
