JHU SAIS and EIA to Host Energy Conference on Short-Term Stresses and Long-Term Change

The Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will host the “ 2010 Energy Conference: Short-Term Stresses and Long-Term Change” on Tuesday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, April 7 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Experts from academia, government, the energy industry and non-profit organizations will speak throughout the conference at the following sessions. The conference will feature keynote addresses on Tuesday, April 6 by Steven Chu, U.S. secretary of Energy, at 9 a.m. and Lawrence Summers, director of the National Economic Council, at 12:30 p.m.

Tuesday, April 6

9 a.m.           Keynote address by Steven Chu

11 a.m.         Concurrent Sessions: “U.S. Climate Change Policy: What’s Next After Copenhagen?” and “Biofuels: Continuing Shifts in the Industry and the Long-Term Outlook”

12:30 p.m.    Keynote address by Lawrence Summers

1:45 p.m.      Concurrent Sessions: “EIA’s Annual Energy Outlook 2010 Highlights” and “Short-Term Energy Prices: What Drivers Matter Most?”

3:30 p.m.      Concurrent Sessions: “Energy and the Economy” and “Regulating Energy Commodities”


Wednesday, April 7

9 a.m.           Concurrent Sessions: “Natural Gas: U.S. Markets in Global Context” and “Impacts on Electric Power Supply and Demand”

11 a.m.         Concurrent Sessions: “Energy Efficiency: Measuring Gains and Quantifying Opportunities” and “Energy and Water: Implications for Energy Development”
