JHU SAIS and Harvard’s IOP to Host Forum, Release New Poll on the Youth Vote and 2008 Elections

The Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Institute of Politics (IOP) at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government will hold a forum, “The 2008 Elections: Tracking the Youth Vote,” on Thursday, April 24 at 11 a.m.

During the forum, IOP will release its new national poll examining the political views of 18-24 year olds. Panelists include:

  • James A. Leach, IOP director, U.S. representative (R-Iowa) from 1977 to 2007 and SAIS graduate
  • John Della Volpe, IOP polling director
  • Jon Gould, IOP survey co-chair and Harvard undergraduate ’10
  • David M. Lampton (moderator), SAIS dean of faculty and director of the China Studies Program

The IOP has been conducting regular polling of America’s young people for eight years, highlighting key trends and issues related to politics and public service. This spring’s poll results provide new in-depth data on 18-24 year olds’ views on issues central to the 2008 presidential race, including immigration, foreign policy and healthcare.

The session, which is open to the public, will be held in Kenney Auditorium of the school’s Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Members of the public should RSVP to saispubsaffairs@jhu.edu or 202.663.5648.

Media who want to cover this event should register with Felisa Neuringer Klubes in the SAIS Communications Office at 202.663.5626 or fklubes@jhu.edu.
