Nobel Prize-Winning Economist Amartya Sen to Speak at JHU SAIS

Amartya Sen, Nobel Prize-winning economist and Harvard University’s Lamont University Professor, will speak at a three-part lecture series at the Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) on Tuesday, November 15, Wednesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 17 at 5:30 p.m.

Sen’s overall topic will be “The Foundations of Democracy” during this next event of the Bernard L. Schwartz Forum on Constructive Capitalism. Francis Fukuyama, the Schwartz Professor of International Political Economy and director of the SAIS International Development Program, will moderate the sessions.

Below are the specific themes for each lecture:
November 15: “Ideas: Past and Present”
November 16: “Practice: Functions and Assessment”
November 17: “From the Local to the Global”

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of the school’s Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Members of the public must RSVP to 202.663.5650 or cpaddock@jhu.edu.
