Canadian Studies | M.A. Academic Requirements

International Economics

Core Courses

Western Hemisphere Studies (WHS)/Canadian Studies Program Requirements: Canadian Studies Program students who wish to qualify for WHS internship opportunities in Latin America must pass the Latin American History Exam. WHS core course: Theory and Practice of Politics in Latin America (810.700) Latin American Studies Course Canadian Studies course Canadian Studies course Canadian Studies course Canadian Studies course If choosing the Energy Track, students must choose Facing the Oil Problem: The United States, Canada, OPEC and the World as one of the Canadian Studies courses and Energy in the Americas: Conflict, Cooperation and Future Prospects as their second Latin American Studies course.

Language Proficiency

French. Under special circumstances, Spanish or Portuguese may fulfill the requirement (consult with Program Office).

Capstone

Canadian Studies concentrators must complete ONE of the following capstones: 1. A twenty-page research paper whose focus and subject matter has been approved by the director 2. A twenty-page written report that draws conclusions about Canadian Studies or Canada-U.S. relations based on an internship undertaken while at SAIS 3.
