Doors open at DAR Constitution Hall on Wednesday, May 23rd, at 10:00 a.m, for guests and graduates.

Graduation ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 1:30 p.m.

Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a reception at Arena Stage and will last until approximately 3:30 p.m.

All SAIS students are invited to attend the The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) commencement ceremony in Washington D.C. The ceremony will take place in DAR Constitution Hall, 1776 D Street, NW, Washington D.C., 20006. 

JHU Commencement (Baltimore):

Thursday May 24, 2018
1.30 p.m.
All SAIS students are invited to attend The Johns Hopkins University-wide commencement ceremony in Baltimore (Royal Farms Arena). Please indicate that you plan to attend this ceremony when you submit your Application to Graduate. The JHU graduation ceremony begins at 1.30 p.m. Directions, maps and parking information can be found on the University's graduation site. Contact the events team confirm your attendance and receive further instructions.

Disability Access
Graduates or guests requiring special accommodations for disabilities should contact the events team by May 7, 2018. Please describe the accommodation you are requesting.

SAIS Student Grad Fair (Washington D.C.)

All SAIS students are invited to attend the The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Grad Fair in Washington D.C. The Grad Fair will take place in Kenney Herter Auditorium in the Nitze Building.

Map and Parking Information

Transportation to and from the Commencement Ceremony
Parking in Washington, D.C. is limited. SAIS and DAR Constitution Hall cannot provide parking spaces for graduation attendees. SAIS suggests guests use the DC Metro system or a taxi. Washington is also a pedestrian-friendly city. The walking distance between SAIS and Constitution Hall is approximately 20-25 minutes. 

For guests who need to bring cars, there are public parking garages in the vicinity that may be of use. Near SAIS, for example, there is a limited amount of parking at Park America at 1776 Massachusetts Avenue NW and Colonial Parking at 1625 Massachusetts Avenue NW. In addition, the DAR Constitution Hall Web site provides useful information for guests. Frequently Asked Questions

The 2017 SAIS Ceremony will be held on May 25th at 11am at DAR Constitution Hall. A reception will follow at Arena Stage. The commencement ceremony in Baltimore will be held the day before, and all SAIS graduates are welcome to walk in that ceremony as well.
Under limited circumstances, M.A. or M.I.P.P. students may “walk” or participate in the May graduation ceremony if they have not met all of their requirements, but they must submit the Application to Graduate by the February 17th deadline. M.A. students may walk if they lack up to two completed courses; they may not walk if they lack more than two completed courses or two completed courses plus other requirements, such as a core exam. Courses in which incomplete or failing grades were received are not considered completed. If you have questions about your progress toward graduation, please contact an academic advisor at All M.I.E.F. students are eligible to walk in the May ceremony, even though they have not completed all of their requirements.
Caps and gowns are ordered through the Oak Hall Site for SAIS. Once that website is live, another email will be going out with those instructions. All students participating in the ceremony must have a cap, gown, hood and tassel in order to be able to walk in the ceremony. The only exception will be made for those individuals wearing their military dress uniform.  M.A., M.I.P.P. and M.I.E.F. students will be able to keep their caps, gowns and hoods – Ph.D. students will be utilizing rentals gowns.
Graduates may receive an unlimited number of tickets for their guests to enter the graduation ceremony at DAR Constitution Hall. Tickets are free of charge. On your application to graduate, you can indicate the number of tickets that you would like to receive. This number can be updated when you pick up the tickets in April. Each guest must have to have a ticket to enter the ceremony.
SAIS prints generic invitations with envelopes that contain information about the ceremony and commencement speaker. Students may receive up to FIVE invitations when they come to pick up their tickets. Extra invitations will be available at the end of April.

Patrons With Disabilities Accommodations

The attached diagram will provide information regarding the seating on the floor of the venue. Please alert if you need assistance.

DAR Constitution Hall access for persons with mobility disabilities is through the entrance doors on D Street. The ramp on D Street may be accessed by vehicles for dropping off patrons with mobility disabilities. The D Street ramp is at the lobby level. Orchestra level seating is accessed by a slight ramp from the lobby level.  Please ask the Doorman, Ticket Taker or Event Staff member at the entrance for assistance if needed. There is no parking on the D Street Drive.

There are accessible restrooms in the D Street lobby and the Ladies Room in the Lower Lounge accessed by the elevator in the 18th and D Street corner of the lobby.
