JHU SAIS to Host Conference on Promoting Women in Emerging Markets

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will hold a daylong conference, “A New Economic Landscape: Promoting Women in Emerging Markets” on Friday, April 12 from 8:15 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This inaugural Global Women in Leadership Conference (GWLC), organized by SAIS graduate students, will address the new economic challenges and opportunities facing women—within markets, from institutions and as individuals. Public, private and international organizations are approaching these issues through different channels—from impact investing to aid—with varying degrees of success. It is important to assess successful strategies in order to identify those that are scalable and replicable across borders and sectors. The goal is to identify the key issues within this complex and rapidly evolving landscape, highlight successful strategies and empower a new generation of leaders to make lasting change.

The event will bring together women from various stages in their careers and diverse sectors, including nonprofits, international organizations, corporations, government and academia. Sylvia Ann Hewlett, founding president of the Center for Talent Innovation and author of Winning the War for Talent in Emerging Markets: Why Women Are the Solution, will give the conference’s keynote address at 9:15 a.m. on “An Update on Women in Emerging Markets.”
