JHU SAIS to Host Conference on Indonesia Ambassadors to be Featured Speakers

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will co-sponsor a conference, "Business Prospects in Indonesia Under the New Government," on Tuesday, 12/7/1999, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A panel of experts on the region from the areas of finance, business, law, academia and government will discuss future business opportunities in Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country, under the new leadership of President Abdurrahman Wahid.

Edward Masters, president of the U.S.-Indonesia Society and former U.S. ambassador to Indonesia, will give the keynote speech, "Has Indonesia Turned the Corner?" at 9 a.m. Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, Indonesian ambassador to the U.S., will be the conference's luncheon speaker at approximately 1:15 p.m.

9:20 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. Panel: "The Political Economy: What's Next?"

11 a.m. - 12:30 a.m.Panel: "Business Opportunities"

12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m.Luncheon address by Ambassador Kuntjoro-Jakti, closing remarks

The event, open to the press, will be held in Kenney Auditorium located on the first floor of SAIS's Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

The conference is co-sponsored by SAIS's Southeast Asia Studies Program and JETRO USA, a Japanese government-supported non-profit organization whose primary mission is to promote and support increased exports of American goods to Japan, as well as the promotion of direct investment into Japan and bilateral industrial cooperation.
