Remote Access

Most of the JHU Libraries' electronic resources are available off-campus (remote access) to current JHU affiliates (students, staff and faculty). Note that ERes does not require remote set-up - you just need a course password.

Before you begin:

1) Have your own Internet Service Provider and web browser.

2) Know your Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory Login ID and password. If you don't know your login id (aka "LID") and password, please go to the JHU Portal site (via an on-campus computer). In the upper right corner, look yourself up by name to get the LID and then create a password by clicking on the "first-time login" tab on the upper left.

Two options for remote access to JHU resources:

1) The Proxy: The "preferred method" because it's so easy. Just click on a link to a database via the Library's website and you'll be directed to the JHED login screen. Enter your JHED ID and password to get into the resource of your choice. That's all you have to do!

2) Hopkins VPN: Virtual Private Network:  Use VPN to remotely integrate your computer from an off-campus location to the Hopkins network. VPN requires downloading and installing a software application; once you sucessfully install the software, you can access JUH's online databases using any browser. The VPN software is available at: http://it.jhu.edu/remoteaccess.html

Note: You'll need your JHED ID / password to download the VPN software. After you install it, open it and re-enter your JHED ID / password when prompted.
