SAIS Professor Thayer Receives Award from Japanese Government Nathaniel Thayer, the Yasuhiro Nakasone Professor in the SAIS Japan Studies Program, was awarded the Japanese government's Order of Rising Sun, Gold Rays with the Neck Ribbon during a ceremony on July 11 at Ambassador Ryozo Kato's residence in Washington, D.C. SAIS Professor Gleijeses Receives Guggenheim Fellowship Piero Gleijeses, SAIS professor of American foreign policy, has been named a 2005 Guggenheim Fellow to pursue his research on Cuban and U.S. policy toward Southern Africa in the Carter and Reagan years. The 186 fellows, chosen from more than 3,000 applicants of artists, scholars and scientists, are appointed on the basis of distinguished achievement in the past and exceptional promise for future accomplishment.
