This course explores three questions. What is the European Union? What does it do? How does it affect the lives of Europeans? This involves a brief look at the main structures of the EU along with a more detailed discussion of some of its policies. In addition to looking at EU policies in areas such as the environment and monetary union, we will discuss broader questions about the role of identity, legitimacy and democracy in the process of European integration.
