Surveys Europe’s economic development since the Industrial Revolution, the event that radically changed the way people live. Discusses why the Industrial Revolution began in Europe, how it spread, the basic features of the new international economy, the role of technological change and patterns of finance, the birth of large corporations, the impact of wars and crises and reconstruction after World War II. Devotes one class to the rise of the Soviet economic system in the interwar years. (Cross listed International Economics/European Studies) Prerequistes: Basic knowledge of macro and micro economics
