SAIS will examine the critical role of demography in international relations during the 2010–11 academic year. “There is enthusiasm at SAIS as we look forward to our ‘Year of Demography,’” said SAIS Dean Jessica P. Einhorn. “Trends in population have major impacts on the growth and competitiveness of countries and regions, the outlook for poverty alleviation, public finances, climate change and so much more. In this year of the U.S. census, the topic of demography seems rich with learning possibilities that can deepen our understanding of international affairs.” The “Year of Demography” is expected to provide many opportunities for students, faculty and alumni to review scholarship and exchange views on this timely topic. Throughout the year, SAIS’s three campuses plan to host a series of events.
