A graduate of Bocconi University in Milan magna cum laude, Donatella Campus received her Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from the European Institute University in Florence. She is currently associate professor of Political Science at the University of Bologna, where she teaches Political Science and Political Communication. She teaches Italian Politics at Dickinson College's Bologna Centre.

Her fields of research are political communication, electoral behavior, leadership, and gender studies. She has published extensively in several international journals, including Political Communication, International Journal of Press/Politics, Journal of Modern Italian Studies, European Journal of Communication, European Journal of Women’s Studies. Her most recent books are Antipolitics in Power (Hampton Press, 2010) and Women Political Leaders and the Media (Palgrave, forthcoming).
